The home and the sale

A hillside estate above the water in Bow, Skagit County, with a blue Spanish tile roof, a columned entry, a wall of windows toward the bay and islands, and a garden terrace. Chase Hedin represented the buyers. The home was listed at $2,950,000 and closed in September 2021 at $2,750,000.

In Chase's words

This is one of the coolest things I have been part of. I met a family relocating from out of state who wanted to be in the Seattle area, and we found a hillside estate above the water in Bow, in Skagit County: a custom-built home of about 6,000 square feet on about 24 acres in a gated community, with a blue Spanish tile roof, a columned entry, a wall of windows over the bay, the San Juan Islands and the Olympic Mountains, an indoor pool, multiple decks and patios, and walking trails through the grounds.

I represented the buyers. The home was listed at $2,950,000 and closed in September 2021 at $2,750,000.

The part that made the film: their kids were still back east, so the parents told them they had not found a home yet and would be living in an RV for a while. We staged a "listing photo shoot" at the house, the kids came up to take a quick shower, and then their parents broke the news. "This is your house." Welcome to Washington.

Buying a view estate in Skagit County takes patience and a negotiation that respects what the property is. That is the work I did for this family, and the surprise at the end was the reward.

List and sold prices are as recorded for the transaction. A sale below list reflects the market and the negotiation between the parties.

Okay, this is probably one of the coolest things I've been a part of. Every home purchase is unique, but what makes this one so unique is I met some out-of-state buyers, Ben and Shelly. They were looking for a home and they were transferring from New Jersey. They wanted to be in the Seattle area. So we found the most beautiful home. It's a 6,000-square-foot home on Chuckanut Ridge in Bow, Washington, and it has 24 acres. It's on the top of the ridge with one of the most amazing views I've ever seen Washington has to offer overlooking the San Juans. We end up getting under contract. We end up closing, and their kids were still over in New Jersey. So they wanted to create this big, elaborate surprise, and they made up the craziest lie that they couldn't find a home, that they were going to be living in their RV, which is actually on its way, and they were working with me trying to find a home in the meantime. Long story short, that was not the case, and we're here. They're on their way. We're about to capture the surprise. They think it's his friend's house that he works with. They're coming up here to take a quick shower and get on their way, because they literally just got in from New Jersey. They've had a long trek. We've been acting like we were about to go do some listing photos for this home. I'm the listing agent, supposedly, and Paul's going to be sitting here taking photos and prepping it for listing. Ben and Shelly are going to break that surprise right now. This is going to be fun. You guys want to get a photo on the deck I know it's raining, or do you guys want to do it in here? Good. Okay. Do the photo here. This house is unbelievable. Smile big. Welcome to Washington. Yeah, I owe you an apology, actually, I've been lying to you for months. This is your house, are you kidding me? Welcome home. Welcome to Washington. Welcome to Washington.
